SUBJECT: Institute as regional Balkan center for protection of cultural historical and natural heritage

Dear,

Institute for protection of cultural historical and natural heritage in Mostar exist since 1948, when this institution was formed. Since then Institute have been working on preservation and conservation of the monuments in Mostar and the closest region. After the recent war, 1992-1994, Institute is continuing with works with new segment of reconstruction of war destroyed or damaged objects. The activities of the Institute in last 10 years were mostly oriented on the reconstruction of the monuments in Mostar even though the Institute was working on the studies and projects in the region (exp. Počitelj).

Today, when we are in the phase of the reconstruction of an old building of the Institute, and as we are living in the period when the importance and values of the monuments as well as their exploring and making high quality projects of reconstruction is of an high importance, we are aware that it is important to make new professionals that will be able to maintain already reconstructed objects and to continue working on the future reconstructions not only in Mostar and Herzegovina but in all Balkan region.

In the past period it was more than good collaboration between Mostar Institute and Swedish ’Cultural Heritage without Borders’. This example can be used as good example of future organization of an Institute, where local professionals can learn from international ones and spread this knowledge and experience among their colleagues in neighboring countries and with this system organize new net of professionals and Institutions at Balkan with central office in Mostar.

All above mentioned data are showing the importance that the future function of the Institute will be bigger and considering this it will need the space of whole object, not only first floor as it was before war.

We truly believe that one Institute with such function and new system of work is necessary for city of Mostar, and for Bosnia and Herzegovina and this is the only way to keep the continuity of cultural heritage in our country which will bring a lot for development in the segment of culture in general.

Yours sincerely,                                                                                                                                                                                                DIRECTOR:
